FOR BETTER FUTURE JOIN GOVIND NATIONAL COLLEGE
Sant Baba Harbans Singh ji (Kutiya Sahib Wale) laid the foundation stone of this college on 24 April, 1966 and handed over its service to S. Joginder Singh Grewal (P.P. Sahib), For several years, S. Joginder Singh Grewal offered his services to people of rural areas through Patna Sahib Education Trust. The sole objective of Patna Sahib trust was to focus on physical, mental and moral development of rural residents. Since the past half a century, the College has been successful in its endeavour to spread the light of knowledge in rural areas.
There was an unfortunate turn of events leading to a period of financial struggle for the college but with Babaji’s Mehr’, S. Jagpal Singh Khangura, my respected father, stepped up to support the college during its time of need. He continued providing relentless support to this Institution for a good twenty years and helped it overcome its time of struggle and led it to new heights of achievement. It is with his efforts that the Institution has been recognised in this area for its relentless service to the field of education and now with his and Babaji’s blessings, I have stepped into the role of shaping the future of this esteemed Institution from March 2023. I feel blessed and honoured to be associated with this place of light, knowledge and wisdom. I wish to focus on providing education to the underpriviledged and marginalized sections of the society with special attention to girl students.
Earlier girl students had to go to far off cities in pursuit of higher education, but now they have the opportunity to seek knowledge while staying with their families. Bus service has been arranged especially for encouraging female enrollment in the college and it will continue to remain so. I have always wanted and worked towards betterment of the area. Present day is an era of electronic media. Information Technology has made the world- a global Village. We have also managed to arrange computers in various schools of this area to make students capable of competing in a Global world. Moving ahead on the path of progress, we started up PGDCA, BCA and computer (as an Elective Subject) in Govind National College. Our managing committee has been successful in shaping one of the highly cherished dreams of S. Joginder Singh Grewal to generate Sports and Physical Education teachers. All the Students who earlier had to visit far off places like Nagpur, Amravati, Patna Sahib etc, for higher education in sports need not go anywhere now as B.P.Ed. (2 Years Duration Course after BA), M.P.Ed. and D.P.Ed. have been started in our college since the academic sessions of 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2009-10 respectively.
After attaining the degree, students can join schools as DPE/PTE or lecturers in colleges. From 2017-18, we have introduced Sociology as an elective subject at U.G. level & one more M.P. Ed. unit.
B.Voc. courses of Retail Management, Automobile and Green House Technology have also been started. Apart fromit, B.Com., M.Sc. Maths and M.A. Punjabi courses are also offered by the college. From session 2021-22, we have introduced 1 year Diploma Course in Hotel Management & Catering and Solar Energy. Bus service for girls and modernized hostel facilities for boys and girls are provided by the College. A well furnished college canteen has been set up to ensure proper food for hostel residents. My managing committee is working hard day and night for the good will of the college. It’s an appeal to the very residents of this area to help us in increasing the strength of the college. The more you inspire me by getting enrolled in the College) the more I will work for its betterment.New indoor sports Auditorium and Shooting Range have been set up with the aid of UGC. It gives me an immensejoy in informing that earlier, the shooting range facility was just available in Dasmesh Girls College of Education, Badal, P.U., Chd. and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar but, now this facility is also available in our college- Govind National College , Narangwal. We have managed to build a Post Graduate Block in the memory of Baba Harbans Singh ji and Baba Gurditt Singh Girls hostel was set up with aid of UGC. 22 new classrooms have been constructed. We have constructed one common room also for the students. The managing Committee of this College purchased 2 buses and Tata Magic to facilitate free bus service. 125KW Gen set has been arranged to overcome the difficulty of Power Shortage. The whole Campus has been equipped with inverters, Water Coolers and LCD TV’s to create a homely environment. Internet facility has been provided to staff and students. Housing facility has been arranged for fourth class employees free of cost. I pledge to continue providing these services and helping the Institution reach new heights of success, which is a dream that I have shared with my respected father, S. Jagpal Singh Khangura.
